Course Descriptions

 

4723 Physical Education

Grade Level: 9, 10, 11, 12          Semester Course

Prerequisite: None         5 Credits
Permission: None

This course offers the student the opportunity to develop competencies in the fol­lowing areas: physical fitness, physical skills, social competence, and knowledge and understanding of team sports and lifetime sports. The student studies and participates in a variety of activities which may include: badminton, basketball, field hockey, flag football, aerobics, pilates, life fitness, track & field, soccer, weight lifting & conditioning, softball, volleyball. The students will be tested on rules and regulations for the activities listed above.

 

4253 Health

Grade Level: 9, 10, 11, 12          Semester Course

Prerequisite: None         5 Credits
Permission: None

This course requires students to explore a variety of topics realated to health and first aid. This exploration will take place through in-class assignments, homework, exams, videos, and guest presentations. The students will gain a greater understanding of what it means to be well.

 

4620 Cheerleading

Grade Level: 9, 10, 11, 12

Year Course

Prerequisites: None       10 Credits
Permission: Tryout required

Fee: Approximately $950

Tryouts are held during the spring semester prior to enrollment. All cheerleaders are required to enroll in this class. This is a year long class. It is mandatory for each student who makes the team to attend summer practices and cheer camp during the month of July. Both parent and student will sign a contract stating that the student will attend all outside classtime practices and performances and abide by all the rules. Up to 20 P.E. credits can be applied towards P.E. requirements.

 

4630 Drill Team

Grade Level: 10, 11, 12  Year Course

Prerequisite: None         10 Credits
Permission: Tryout Required

Fee: Approximately $950

Drill team is a group that performs for halftimes, for the football and basketball home games. Dance experience is neccessary to make this team. It is man­datory for each student who makes this team to attend all summer practices and Drill camp during the month of July. Both parent and student will sign a contract stating that the student will attend all outside classtime practices and performances as well as abide by the rules. This course receives up to 20 PE credits toward PE requirements. This course does not meet the Visual Performining Arts requirement.

 

4763 Athlete P. E.

Grade Level: 11, 12       Semester Course

Prerequisite: Application must be submitted by  5 Credits

the dates publicized, generally one week after     Pass/Fail
the beginning of each semester.

Permission: Vice Principal

Eligibility is restricted to junior and senior students who need PE credits toward graduation, maintain academically challenging schedules, and participate in rigorous competitive programs at the state, national, or international level, or who are involved in intensive after school practice for a St. Mary's sport.

 

4883 Drivers Education

Grade Level: 9,10          Quarter Course

Prerequisite: None         2.5 Credits
Permission: None

Fee: $100

This course is offered "0" period (7:20 a.m.-8:10 a.m.) Monday through Friday for 30 days. Drivers education requirements mandated by the state are met in this course. Sign-ups will be offered quarterly in the main office.
