The second annual charity basketball game
benefitting the
California Highway Patrol's CHiP's 4
Kids program was played between the St.
Mary's Faculty and members of the
California Highway Patrol's Valley
Division, Stockton and Tracy offices.
Sacramento Kings mascot Slamson and the
Highway Patrol's mascot Chipper joined
St. Mary's Rambo to entertain the crowd.
The St. Mary's event,
with the permission of Jim Brusa, the
Athletic Director and consent of Mr.
Peter Morelli, the principal, was
coordinated by Ms. Barbara Harada with
additional planning and support provided
Mr. Jim Johnston, Ms. Diane Malcoun,
Ms. Barbar McDermott and the
and the entire SM
basketball crew helped to make sure all
went smoothly at the game. Volunteer
referees from the Sac-Joaquin Athletic
Section officiated the game. Officers
Angel Arceo and Adrian Quintero were the
organizational heads for the Highway
Patrol who worked with St. Mary's
volunteer Vladimir "Mirko" Kozina in
setting up the event.
The game itself
featured both a competitive basketball
match with the Highway Patrol who won by
a 77-63 victory, a wonderful half-time
show that included St. Mary's own Myree
Bowden, NCAA dunk contest finalist and
former member of the Harlem
Globetrotters, demonstrating, with the
help of the Sacramento Kings mascot,
Slamson, ball handling and dunking
Globetroter style; a dance contest
between Slamson, St. Mary's Rambo and
the CHP's mascot Chipper. Amanda King of
KWIN was the half-time MC and the Rams
Cheer Squad provided entertainment and
threw gifts and shirts to the audience.
Enough toys were
donated to fill several
CHP cruisers. When it was over, only one
thought remained: Same time, next year!
