  14. The advisor may place on probation, suspend, or drop from the squad any spirit leader for any of the following reasons:

  2. Each squad member must attend school a minimum of three periods the day of a game.

  3. Missing a game must be cleared with the advisor at least one week prior to the date in writing. Only two games per year may be missed except in the case of illness or unexpected emergency. If more than two are missed you will be put on probation. You may not miss games because of other school practices (sports, drama, clubs).  You now must choose whether to participate in competitive Cheer/Dance teams or St. Mary’s Cheer and Drill teams.

  4. Transportation to and from the games is the responsibility of the Spiritleaders family

  5.  Practice Sessions

  6. All summer practices are mandatory. Failure to attend will result in a B grade for P.E. first quarter.

  7. All Spiritleaders must attend summer camp with their squads. The camp dates are: July 14th thru July 17th.  Both squads will attend USA Cheer Camp at Santa Cruz.

Miscellaneous

  1. The camp fee is $325 per student. This includes their transportation to camp and, their lodging and all their meals.

  2. All candidates must be in good physical condition prior to tryouts. Cheerleading and Drill requires that the participants be in good physical condition, because of the nature of the activity. People with weak backs, necks, or knees should not try out. Each member will be required to have a physical prior to the start of school. All students may take the fall sports physical for $10 or go to their own physician. The date for the physical will be in August.

  3. The St. Mary's Spiritleader is expected to conform to the athletic code of St. Mary's school. Successful candidates will be given a book, which requires student and parent signatures.

  4. Cheer and Drill are athletic undertakings. Just like any other sport, there is a risk of injury to participants. Parents and guardians need to understand and appreciate this fact.

Relgion 1-2 Classroom Policy

We will be using two texts this year for Freshman Theology. You will need to have the text, “The Light of Faith” for the first semester, and you will need “Journey Through the New Testament”, for the second semester.  You will need to bring your textbook, a spiral notebook, and a pen/ pencil with you for every class meeting.  You will be told when you need to bring your Bible.  I will collect the spiral notebooks periodically for the work to be evaluated.

There will be homework; however, I understand that this class is only a part of your whole St. Mary’s experience.  I will not generally accept late homework, unless the student has been absent.  If time is used wisely, we should be able to accomplish a lot within our given class period – (that means you can get your homework done here if you put your mind to it).

Classroom dynamics are based upon mutual respect and common courtesy.  I anticipate a positive, affirming atmosphere in which we are all allowed to question, to study, and to grow in our relationships with one another and Jesus.  Self-respect and maturity are shown in how considerate we are of one another.

INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR WILL NOT BE TOLERATED

Detentions from me will be served in Rm. 18 ten minutes after the last bell of the day.  Detentions will be 15 minutes long, unless you are tardy to begin with, in which case your detention will be extended by 10 additional minutes.  Detentions are served the day they are given, unless prior arrangements are made with me.  A no-show, as well as too many detentions, will necessitate a call home, and if necessary, a referral to the dean.  This is both a waste of my time and your time.

General Rules:

  • We all get a turn, one at a time.  We all have valuable thoughts.  You will  raise your hand and be called on before you speak.

  • You are to be seated and quiet when the bell rings.  If you are out of your seat when the bell rings, you are tardy.

  • Use the restroom before class. You will not be allowed to leave class once class has started to use the restroom.

  • Other work being done during class will be taken and not returned.

  • Gum, food, drinks—yes, even water, are not allowed in class.

  • Absence the day before a known test day obligates you to take the test on the test day if present.

  • Plagiarism will not be tolerated and will result in disciplinary action.

  • No cell phones allowed during school hours.

It is my responsibility to create an environment in which learning can take place and where individuals are given appropriate respect.  I am asking for your cooperation in these matters.  Room 18 is a place where you know you will find respect and courtesy, a place where your thoughts and opinions are valued and can be expressed, a place where you can be you.  Please place this in your notebook minus the signed portion that must be turned in to me.
