Shield and Crest

The St. Mary's shield expresses her religious heritage. The black and white cross and the motto "Veritas" - truth - represent the tradition of the Dominican Sisters who have served since 1876. The crescent and the Fluer de Lis are symbols of Mary, patroness of the Diocese of Stockton. "Caritas" - charity - is the motto of the Franciscans who served from 1957 to 1967. The shield and the white cross and motto "Tenui nec dimittam" - I have taken hold and will not let go - reflect the history of the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales who came in 1970. All have joined to preserve the mission of Saint Mary's High School.
