We at St. Mary's are proud of our Catholic heritage, our own
traditions, and our history in the Stockton community. Because we believe
that human beings are the pinnacle of God's creation on earth, we at St.
Mary's strive to develop the total person - spiritually, intellectually, and
physically. We realize that we must continue to be unique and contemporary,
dedicated to developing students who possess the necessary skills for the
future and who make choices which reflect Christian values. Our common goal
as a community is to stress value-based instruction and academic excellence.
The St. Mary's shield expresses her religious heritage. The
black and white cross and the motto Veritas - truth represent the tradition
of the Dominican Sisters who have served since 1876. The crescent and the
Fleur de Lis are symbols of Mary, patroness of the Diocese of Stockton.
Caritas - charity is the motto of the Franciscans who served from 1957-1967.
The shield and the white cross and the motto Tenui nec dimittam - I have
taken hold and will not let go reflect the history of the Oblates of St.
Francis de Sales who came in 1970. All have joined to preserve the mission
of St. Mary's High School.
