Domenico Pittis joined SMHS in 2021, where he serves as the Hockey Director, as well as the Head Coach for the boys and girls varsity teams.

Before joining SMHS, Coach Pittis was part of the Calgary Flames organization for six seasons. Bob Hartley, former Head Coach of the Flames, brought him back to North America as the Flames Skills and Development Coach in 2013. In 2015, he moved into the position of Assistant Coach for the Heat.

Coach Pittis, a Calgary, Alberta native had a pro career spanning 19-years and over two continents. He played 86 NHL games with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Buffalo Sabres, Edmonton Oilers, and Nashville Predators and is also a 309 game AHL alum, scoring 109 goals and 342 points. During the 1998-99 season with the Rochester Americans, he scored 38 goals and 104 points, winning the John B. Sollenberger Trophy as the AHL's leading scorer. In 2004-05, Coach Pittis went to Switzerland where he won two league championships, a Champions Hockey League Championship, and at the international level, won a Spengler Cup while representing Team Canada.

Under his tutelage, Coach Pittis helped Markus Granlund, Derek Grant, Garnet Hathaway, Kenny Agostino, Freddie Hamilton, Hunter Shinkaruk, Emile Poirier, Drew Shore, Turner Elson, Linden Vey, Mark Jankowski, Andrew Mangiapane, Ryan Lomberg, Spencer Foo, Dillon Dube, and Curtis Lazar move from the AHL to the Calgary Flames.
 
Our ice hockey program is looking for host families!
 
  • We’re looking for families to host student-athletes not local to San Joaquin County.
  • Host families provide a room, meals, and transportation to and from school and school events.
  • Host families provide guidance and support.
  • Host families receive compensation.
  • Students live as members of the host families, participate in family activities, help with chores, and abide by and respect host family rules.
  • Students are from the Bay Area, Southern California, out of state, and occasionally out of the country.
  • Students range from 14-18 years old
