Instrumental Music
The Saint Mary’s Symphonic Band is an award-winning ensemble which performs at football games, rallies, and in concerts. Students also compete every year in a national festival, and placed 2nd in their division in 2019 at the Heritage Festival in Anaheim, CA.
Students are given Music Theory assignments regularly, and progress through the 6-level theory books over the course of their four years at Saint Mary’s. Symphonic Band is a UC/CSU approved elective and is held during B period. Students of all experience levels are welcome to join, but chair positions are auditioned.
There are also two other instrumental ensembles which are open to students, regardless of participation in Band.
The Drumline is a 0 period class that is enrolled in at the beginning of the year, and marches at football games, rallies, and in local parades.
The Jazz Band is a voluntary ensemble that meets after school 2-3 days a week. The Jazz Band plays at retirement homes and local functions.
Both the Drumline and Jazz Band also perform in our end-of-semester concerts. Students are welcome to learn more about joining the Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, or Drumline by emailing instructor Mr. Joshua Landin at [email protected] or by visiting the Band Room during B period.
