Is it possible to make a pledge instead of donating all at one time?
Yes. Make a gift that will benefit Saint Mary's by providing steady, reliable funding for the Annual Fund through monthly, quarterly, or an annual donation. This recurring pledge may allow you to give more generously over a period of time than would be possible through a single contribution. You can easily make your pledge on your credit card online through our online donation forms. You determine the amount and frequency of your donation, and we will charge your credit card at the predetermined interval. We will send you an email confirming the charge, and your gift will automatically renew each year.

If you prefer to pay by check, for your convenience we are happy to arrange a payment schedule and we will bill you monthly, quarterly or semi-annually.

What is the annual fund and why is it Saint Marys’ chief giving program?
Tuition covers only about 78% of the cost of a Saint Mary's education. The Annual Fund is dedicated to raising funds to bridge the gap between the revenue generated by tuition and the cost of providing a truly exceptional education for all students. This revenue gap exists because tuition at Saint Mary's High School is kept as low as possible to make a Saint Mary's Catholic education affordable for our community— which is a central value of our Catholic faith.

The Annual Fund is our chief Giving program and the Annual Fund because it supports almost every aspect of a Saint Mary's education to help "Fill the Gap." Fundraising efforts cover the remaining expenses, the most significant focus being the Saint Mary's Annual Fund. Annual Fund gifts are typically unrestricted so that they can be directed to areas with the greatest need — and have the highest potential for impact. Donating is easy – make your online gift today!

The Annual Fund provides immediate, flexible resources to maximize impact on our students' education in areas including maintaining and building our educational programs, supporting our campus spiritual life, visual and performing arts, supporting our faculty including their professional development, and campus maintenance and enhancement.

The Annual Fund includes Parent Giving, “Alumni challenge” giving, general Online Giving, and Annual Appeal giving which goes out in the form of a letter each year in the late summer or early fall.

The Annual Fund runs for our entire fiscal year beginning on July 1 and ending June 30th.

Donors to the Annual Fund will be recognized in giving categories in our Traditions Magazine and Annual Report online.

How do I let you know if I want my gift to remain anonymous?
On our forms — either online or otherwise – you will find a box to check to indicate that you want your gift to remain anonymous. If you do not indicate that the gift is anonymous, your name may be published in our online/hardcopy publications under "annual giving," "alumni challenge by class,' and in other formats.

What is your refund policy?

Why build a permanent endowment?
Building a permanent endowment provides organizations with future stability and a foundation from which to grow, not contingent on the success of our current or future fundraising efforts. Having an endowment fund provides a constant source of annual income while demonstrating security and long-range financial planning.

What is the Saint Mary’s High School Endowment and how does it work?
The Endowment was created to provide long-term financial stability for Saint Mary's High School. The Endowment is approaching $3,000,000 in market value and managed by the Saint Mary's High School Foundation.

An endowment is composed of donations made to the Saint Mary's High School Foundation with the understanding that the original value of the gift (the principal) will be invested and a portion of the investment earnings (the distribution) will be used to fund the philanthropic intent of the donor. An endowment fund provides program support every year, in perpetuity. The Foundation Board of Directors annually reviews and approves the distribution rate with the dual goal of providing as much tuition assistance support as possible while allowing for preservation and growth of the Endowment.

What is the Foundation’s approach to managing its endowment?
The Foundation's primary objective is to maintain an appropriate balance of maximizing the rate of return and providing for the growth of the principal while safeguarding the monetary value of the individual gifts and their impact on the university programs they benefit.

Where is the Saint Mary’s High School Endowment money invested?
The money is invested at the Bank of Stockton's Trust department and actively managed by Wealth Management Group with complete oversight and review by the Saint Mary's High School Foundation Board of Directors.

What is the difference between a restricted and an unrestricted fund? How can an endowment be used?
The majority of endowment funds are restricted to a specific purpose by the donor, such as student tuition assistance, in support of our faculty, or to further an academic program. Other funds are unrestricted and can be used for the best use as determined by the Foundation. The Foundation honors restrictions on the use of the fund forever and has a legal requirement to do so.

What happens to our endowment at the Saint Mary’s High School Foundation if our organization goes out of existence?
The Saint Mary's Foundation was formed specifically to ensure that does not happen by helping to build a sustainable future for Saint Mary's for the next 150 years. In the extremely unlikely event that that should happen, in order to preserve donor intent, the charitable earnings will be redirected by the Community Foundation's Board of Directors to the most similar cause.
