Advancement at SMHS

Letter from Greg Traverso, Director of Advancement

Dear fellow alumni and friends of Saint Mary’s,

Saint Mary’s high school transforms lives. Thank you for being an important part of the Saint Mary’s story as we journey together to our 150th Anniversary in 2026 out of love for our school and the next generation of students. Your gift will make a real and lasting difference in the lives of today's youth who are facing so many challenges in a society of shifting standards. Giving to Saint Mary’s is giving to the formation of character in a faith-inspired and community environment, helping our students to grow as a whole person--intellectually, spiritually, emotionally and physically.

My time as a student at Saint Mary’s in the 1970’s was transformative, although I did not realize it at the time. In my twenty-five years at Saint Mary’s as a teacher, Dean of Students, administrator, parent of three children who are recent graduates, and now the Director of Advancement, I am a witness to the transformation of our students that takes place and in our alumni when they come back to visit and thank our teachers.

At Saint Mary’s every teacher in every class from religion, to history, to P.E. says a prayer before class. At the start of each day there is a campus-wide prayer and the entire school stands to say the Pledge of Alliance. Discipline is valued at Saint Mary’s and this leads to character development, learning self-control, respect, and an understanding that we are part of something greater. Integrating religious truth of the Good News values with life distinguishes Saint Mary’s from other non-Catholic schools.

Thank you for your support of our students. Thank you for your volunteer time, financial support, and especially, your prayers.

For our students — now and in the future — in His name,

Greg Traverso
Director of Advancement
