Saint Mary’s High School Announces Alle Moreno as Girls Basketball Head Coach

Saint Mary’s is bringing home one of its own to be the new Head Coach for the Girls Basketball Program. Alle Moreno, ’10, a Stockton Athletic Hall of Fame inductee with six years of Division 1 collegiate coaching experience, was announced Sunday morning by Athletic Director Adam Lichter, as the next Rams Head Coach.

"In searching for the new Girls Varsity Basketball Coach we wanted to find someone who embodies the mission and values of our school and has the competitive spirit to win at the national level," Lichter said. "We are blessed to have found a coach who knows the rich tradition of Saint Mary’s High School and has a keen understanding of the high school basketball landscape, both as a former player and as a collegiate coach at San Jose State. She came highly recommended and has a sincere passion for the game of basketball. We look forward to the upcoming season and I am so fired up to have her a part of the Ram family once again!"

Moreno will take the reins from her former coach, Tom Gonsalves, who resigned after 19 years leading the program. Moreno played for Gonsalves from 2006-2010 and was part of the Rams dynasty that won two Northern California Championships, two State Championships and a National Championship.

“God’s timing is always perfect and it is a dream come true to be back home at Saint Mary’s,” said Moreno. “I want to express my deepest gratitude to Adam Lichter, Kathy Smith and Jim Brusa for believing in me and naming me the Head Coach of the Girls Basketball Program. The dynasty that has been built over the years speaks for itself along with the work Tom Gonsalves has done over his tenure is nearly unmatched in high school sports. I look forward to continuing that path of academic and athletic excellence and keeping Saint Mary’s at the forefront of high school basketball.”

Alle's Bio:

Alle Moreno had been with San Jose State Women’s Basketball staff since 2014 where she earned her Master’s Degree in Business Administration. In 2019, she was named Associate Head Coach and was part of the nation's largest single-season win turnaround. In her final season she was named one of the Top 50 Most Impactful Assistant Coach by Silver Wave Media. During her tenure at San Jose State, she served as the Defensive Coordinator, led all in and out of season player development, lead the programs camps and clinics and served as the team’s Academic Coordinator. In 2018, she recruited Hawaii’s Gatorade Player of the Year.

Prior to San Jose State, Moreno played at Sacramento State earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and enjoyed one of the most accomplished careers in the program’s history. Moreno completed her eligibility ranked seventh on Sacramento State’s career scoring list with 1,280 points, broke the record for three pointers made and steals, and ranked top 10 in program history in assists, made field goals, and free throw percentage. Moreno was a four-time Academic All Big Sky Honoree, two time All Big Sky Performer, named to the 2013 Big Sky Championship Team, and was nominated for the 2013-2014 Senior CLASS award.

The coaching staff at Saint Mary’s High School is dedicated to the growth and achievement of each student in their pursuit of excellence in athletics.
