SAINT MARY’S HAS PLUGGED INTO THE ESPORTS ARENA
Saint Mary’s High School Esports team launched into its first season back in 2021. What started as an on campus club for interested gamers has turned into a competitive sports team, hoping to reach new heights in the world of Esports. Our team plays in a variety of different leagues like the High School Esports League, PlayVS, and Vanta, in order to give our team members a chance to play against some of the best in High School Esports. We offer over thirty different gaming titles to compete in, with some of those titles even being recognized by CIF and NFHS. This team has produced athletes like Callaghan McCarty who won second place in Nationals for playing chess! This sport offers a flexibility that no other team can offer here on campus; Esports can be played from campus or your own home! Whether your student is a lone wolf who prefers Minecraft and Chess or loves the thrill of joining a team for Call of Duty or Fortnite, we have somewhere for them to fit right in. Students will have a chance to compete for cash, scholarships, trophies, and above all else, bringing Ram Pride into the world of gaming.
WHAT IS ESPORTS AND WHY SHOULD MY STUDENT PLAY?
Esports (also known as electronic sports) is a form of competition using video games. The world of Esports consists of competitive, organized video gaming. Competitors from different leagues or teams face off in the same games that are popular with at-home gamers: Fortnite, League of Legends, Counter-Strike, Call of Duty, Overwatch and Madden NFL, to name a few.
The reasons to get involved in Esports are many, but to name a few:
- Low level barrier of entry
- Play from home or campus
- Minimal of 2 hours for practice weekly
- Little to no injuries
- Career pathway to a variety of positions
- Education for multiple subjects
