Because 90+% of Rams live in and use Stockton-San Joaquin county branch libraries (SSJCPL), this is the DEFAULT library system.
ALL Saint Mary's students (regardless of where they live) should get a library card through Stockton-San Joaquin County Library (SSJCPL.org).
LODI is not part of the SSJCPL, so in order to access the same databases that Mrs. Crow will have you using, you will need to get a library card from the SSJCPL.

Why get a card?
  • Databases cost (on average) $2,000-$3,000 annually. St. Mary's cannot afford to get as many databases as we would like, so Mrs. Crow has you access databases that are available to you through the local public library.  Because 90% (plus) of our students live in the SSJCPL system, that is our default access point. You will want to be able to follow along with the rest of your class.
  • FREE TUTORING!!! Tutor.com, Mango, and Universal Classes are all free ways to get the jump on those problematic classes--or to learn on your own!
  • Computer Cards / e-Cards allow you to get eBooks, audioBooks, Music Streaming, and Movie Streaming. You can access their databases and ebooks--and there is no need to actually go to the library to get the card (although it is faster if you do).
  • Physical Cards give you access to everything you get with a Computer Card / eCard. You also get access to physical books, CDs, and DVDs. You must go to the library to obtain one of these.

What if I'm from Lodi or from outside of San Joaquin county?
Please get an eCard / Computer Card from the SSJCPL; a regular card is optional.
You are also encouraged to have a library card with your home system; Mrs. Crow will be glad to assist you in using your local services.

Where is the nearest branch?
How do I get a Physical card?
  1. You will need to go physically to a branch near you.
  2. Any student under the age of 18 will need to bring their parent with them.
  3. Parents (or Students aged 18+)  must bring:
    1. Photo ID
    2. Proof of current address (a sent piece of mail, a utilities bill, a bank statement, etc.)
  4. Students under the age of 18 must bring:
    1. Their parent/legal guardian
    2. Student ID
  5. The staff will have you sign your card and welcome you to the library on the spot!

How do I get an e-Card/Computer card?
  1. Have your parents call this number:
    209-937-8221 ext 2
(Toll-Free outside of the county, call
    866-805-7323 ext 2)
  2. Dial the extension for the Circulation Desk / Customer Accounts.
  3. Tell them you want to get an e-Card or a Computer Card.
  4. Your parents will need to give them the following information:
    1. Your first and last name (legal name)
    2. Your birthdate
    3. Your phone number
    4. Your email address
    5. Your physical address
  5. The library will mail you the card in question to the physical address you provided.

CONTACT A LIBRARIAN:
Mr. Atienza's Library History Project
Most libraries are run by a variety of people. Librarians are the managers, with a Masters degree in Library and Information Studies (MLIS or MLS for short). Support Staff consists Circulation & Customer Accounts, Librarian Assistants, Circulation Assistants, Sorters, Shelvers (Pages), other miscellaneous positions, and tons of volunteers! For this project you will need to contact your local library and ask for a librarian who has an MLIS/MLS.

As of October 2024, here is a list of the librarians at the various branches in the SSJCPL and in Lodi. If you come from a different county, please contact Mrs. Crow for assistance in locating your local librarian.

There are two good ways to contact your local librarian: Call them or drop by the library to schedule.
For Stockton & SJ County, call 209-937-8221 and dial extension 3. Tell them you are a student who has been assigned to interview a librarian with a degree, and ask to be connected to the branch in question.

Library Cards: Anyone under the age of 18 MUST bring a parent or a legal guardian with them. The adult must bring Photo ID and a piece of mail or a bill to establish their address. Students, please bring your SMHS ID card.

Libraries Outside of San Joaquin County

Students in the following library systems are STRONGLY RECOMMENDED--but not required--to get a card from their local library system in addition to the library card from SSJCPL. Mrs. Crow will be happy to help you research using your home databases and help you access books from your local library system,  but YOU will need to have a library card in order to do so. (Please bring it to the SMHS library so Mrs. Crow can help you.)
