Letters of Recommendation

Letters of recommendation are a supplemental piece of the application that aims to provide context to a student's application for admission.  Many public schools (UC's and CSU's included) do not ask for, nor accept, Letters of Recommendation from applicants.  However, many private schools, including most on the Common App, do ask for Letters of Recommendation.

Your counselor is happy to write one for you. We kindly ask that you fill out the SCOIR SURVEY -Letter of Recommendation, by October 1st at the latest

In addition to your counselor recommendation, many institutions will request at least one additional teacher recommendation, in many cases it may be 2 letters from faculty. Please make sure to request theses letters in person from your faculty well in advance of the deadlines.  They will be able to view your SCOIR survey so again, it's important that it is accurate and comprehensive.
Remember, faculty may know you well in the context on their classroom, but it's helpful for them to also know all the other things you may be involved with (employment, external involvements outside of SM, faith engagement, etc.).

If you have any questions about Letters of Recommendation, please see your counselor!
