Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE)

WHAT IS WUE?

WUE (pronounced (“woo-wee”) offers reduced nonresident tuition to residents in the West studying out-of-state at 160+ public institutions, across 15 states and US Territories in the region. Participating two- and four-year public colleges and universities across the Western U.S. agree to charge out-of-state students no more than 150 percent of the institution’s in-state tuition. Tuition savings may vary depending on the college or major.

Individual institutions set eligibility requirements (GPA/Testing) for their specific institution. As such, students and families are encouraged to research the specific requirements for the institutions they are considering to ensure they qualify for WUE consideration.

HOW DO I GET STARTED?
  1. Check your eligibility by home state/ territory, college and major through the online WUE Savings Finder. Visit WUE.
  2. Meet the college’s WUE admissions requirements and deadlines.
  3. Apply directly to the college(s) of your choice.
  4. Connect with the institution's WUE office - they are the best source of information!

SOME THINGS TO REMEMBER:

  • WUE awards are time-limited, or may max out after a certain number of credits are earned.
  • Students must remain in good academic standing.
    • Check with the school for specific GPA/minimum credit hours requirements
  • Students can’t use time paying the WUE rate to gain in-state residency
